I''m interrupting my work on the Aria Bud-Strat to examine and comment on my new Jackson Performer:

The neck is stamped with model number "PS 3 T" on the heel. The serial number begins with "9"; according to many internet sites, this means that the neck was manufactured in Japan in 1995-1998. During my short research, I never found any Jackson Performer with a cheap strat-copy body, so I don't think the body on this guitar is the original Performer body. It has a rosewood fretboard; one and 11/16ths inch nut (chintzy version of 42 mm); 22 frets (height 0.054-inch, width 0.115-inch and generally in good shape; 25.5 inch scale; string gauges E (0.008 inch), B (0.010 inch), G (0.015 inch), D (0.024 inch), A (0.032 inch), and E (0.042 inch). The fretboard seems straight, and all notes sound (actually, relief at fret #8 is 0.005 inch); action at fret #17 Bass is 8/64-inch, Treble 6/64-inch (almost comfortable for my playing style); general string distance over fret #1 is 0.015-0.018 inch except over the little E string, where it is 0.025 inch; pickups flat with pick-guard. Radius of strings at bridge unknown, but known to be incorrect (with ruler over strings just off of bridge, all strings sound except #2 and #5). Bridge string spacing is 2.05 inches (52 mm).

Note: Although the relief is only 0.005 inch, the actual fretboard bow is 0.016 inch at about frets #8-10. I did not get to check the fretboard radius (my fret gauges seem to be AWOL). Electronics: Three pots and 5-pos switch, all dirty; switch shorted; 1/4-inch output jack loose; wiring old; three pickups all work. The control cavity is unshielded.
